More Than a Golf Outing

Everybody enjoys a great day of golf in the summertime! When you combine a relaxing day on the course with a compassionate cause, you turn an outing into a life-changing event for not only the children you help, but for yourself.

The Wendy’s Golf Classic (formerly the Ashland Charity Auction and Golf Tournament) supports organizations committed to investing in the health and well-being of children in challenging family situations. Since the establishment of this golf outing in 2005, our community has raised over a quarter-million dollars for area charities. Whether you get a hole in one or stroke way over par, It feels good to swing a club and help!

Get to Know the Charities

The Wendy’s Golf Classic benefits both Team Focus and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, two national organizations that make a local difference in the Ashland community.  

Team Focus

Team Focus is an outreach program for fatherless boys that sponsors a number of functions in the Ashland area throughout the year. Every July, Ashland University hosts a camp for boys, equipping them to develop life skills and positive decision-making abilities with the influence of adult role models who invest in the campers’ lives. Team Focus founder Mike Gottfried grew up without a father and knows what it feels like to live with that gap: “I have a desire to provide a place for young men to come and be encouraged, motivated, and challenged.”

Along with summer camp, Team Focus provides the following services to the boys it helps:

• Winter and Spring Mini-Camps

The Dave Thomas Foundation

The Dave Thomas Foundation has one mission: to dramatically increase the number of adoptions from foster care because every child deserves a safe, loving, and permanent family. The Foundation works closely with child welfare advocates and policymakers to raise awareness about foster care adoption, including National Adoption Day. DAVE helps boys and girls throughout the Ashland area, Ohio, and the country, valuing a strong connection among local organizations and a national mission to help children.
